Spells and Abilities

• General Overview

  Primarily intended as a character for use in generally liberal forum-style roleplay, the spells and abilities Siyo possesses do not carry very many figures in terms of statistics. For people who prefer to use statistic weights, Siyo's abilities do possess some light figures to allow adaptation and estimation of their effectiveness in an evenly-balanced (and heavily simplified) system. A suggested system for which the statistics of each ability is designed is outlined on the Games and Systems page.
  --It is understood that not all of these abilities are appropriate for some styles or settings and as such are subject to being excluded at request (or altered for specific instances.) I (the player) do acknowledge and ask that if a fellow player takes issue with any of them in the course of a game, do let me know and something can and will be arranged. A game is of no use to anyone if one or more parties are not enjoying it.

• Special Abilities

  Loosely defined, "Special Abilities" include any mythical or semi-mythical abilities possessed by Siyo'Ok that are not spells. Typical Special Abilities include passive resistances and special properties or attacks.
  
  

  Celestial Blood

  Inducted into the Third Order, Siyo'Ok has been infused with divine essence rendering him akin to a good-aligned outsider. While this does not make Siyo an "angel" or "deva" it does entitle him to a few benefits enjoyed by creatures of those strands.
  

  Statistical Effects

  • Resist Poison: A mundane (nonmagical) poison is 100% less likely to affect Siyo while magical poisons are 25% less likely.
  • Resist Disease: A mundane (nonmagical) disease is 100% less likely to affect Siyo while magical diseases are 25% less likely. Siyo is immune to vampirism.
  • Resist Curses: A curse effect is 50% less likely to affect Siyo.

  
  

  Serene Mind

  Centuries of meditation and mental discipline have steeled Siyo's mind against outside influences and loss of control. As a result, he is difficult to sway and nearly impossible to dominate.

  Statistical Effects

  • Indomitability: Any magical effect that exerts direct mental control over Siyo's thoughts or actions is 100% less likely to affect him.

  Note: Siyo loses this ability if he does not maintain meditative serenity. If Siyo is exceptionally angered, this ability ceases to function until he has regained a state of calm.

  
  

  Otherworldly Physiology

  As a celestial being, Siyo has the extraordinary ability to recover from injuries that would otherwise leave a mortal being crippled for life as well as the strength of fortitude to make otherwise lethal blows less threatening.
  

  Statistical Effects

  • Regeneration: If players use a system of hit points (see Games and Systems for a suggested simplified system), this ability allows Siyo to passively recuperate 3% of his total health at the end of each in-character post. Siyo may choose to use this ability actively, requiring one full round worth of concentration to complete, instead recovering 15% of his total health (cooldown: 2 rounds.) If players are not using a system of hit points, this ability functions within the reasonable discretion of Siyo's player in accordance with the Game Master's consent.
  • Critical Negation: If an attack would normally strike an area that might be considered vital on a normal humanoid being, it is instead considered a normal hit. The only exception to this are attacks that strike at Siyo's heart or strikes that fully decapitate him. If players are using a system for critical attacks, this means that Siyo reduces an opponent's chance to score a critical hit by 50% (multiplicative, not additive. Thus, if an opponent has a 10% chance to score a critical hit, he instead has a 5% chance [50% of 10%.])
  • Sturdiness: Attacks that would interrupt an action or cause Siyo to lose an action (such as from stunning, dazing or paralysis) have their chances for success reduced by 50%.

  
  

  Keen Senses

  With sharp senses that go beyond the norm for any mortal being, Siyo can hear distant and faint sounds as clearly as one hears a door shut nearby. With sense of smell, tactile and even a limited ability to taste nearby creatures on the air, it is difficult to avoid the attention of the dragon.
  

  Statistical Effects

  This ability allows Siyo to take notice of hidden opponents more easily, predict enemy moves more readily and avoid the brunt of what would otherwise be sudden, unexpected attacks. Enemy attacks relying on stealth, feint attacks or attacks from hidden or distant positions have their chances of success reduced by 50% and their damage, when successful, reduced by 20%. In addition, enemies using concealment or stealth suffer a 50% penalty to any bonuses received when attacking or defending against Siyo. Siyo can "see" twice as far as a normal character in conditions of poor visibility.

  
  

  Lightning Blast Breath

  As a storm dragon, Siyo possesses a draconis fundamentum and with it the ability to exhale a massive blast of electricity at his foes. Those who are not quick enough to escape the wrath of the dragon soon find themselves wishing they had not crossed him.
  

  Statistical Effects

  This ability unleashes a blast of electricity with a breadth of effectiveness eight feet wide (including spider-veins) and an effective length of up to sixty feet away from Siyo in the direction he chooses to unleash it with a 75% chance of affecting all creatures in the target zone. Affected targets take a Heavy amount of Electricity damage. Activation Time: 2 rounds; Cooldown: 2 rounds.

  
  

  St. Elmo's Fire

  The breath of the dragon is fiercest when the dragon's ire is risen. In times of particular duress, Siyo has discovered that his breath weapon exceeds his expectations and intensifies into a furious, bright-blue plasma.
  

  Statistical Effects

  When active, this ability modifies the effects of Siyo's Lightning Blast Breath, causing it to affect a cone out to sixty feet long and up to forty feet across at its end. Rather than its normal damage, a Lightning Blast Breath modified by St. Elmo's Fire deals Extreme amounts of energy damage with no type (untyped energy damage can't normally be resisted) to the affected targets and gains an additional 10% chance to affect creatures in the target zone. The activation time is unaffected, but the cooldown time is doubled.
  Note: This ability is only active when Siyo is in a state of emotional distress; that is to say that any time Siyo would lose his Serene Mind ability, he gains access to this one. Whenever Siyo would regain use of his Serene Mind ability, he loses access to St. Elmo's Fire (and its effects immediately end). While this ability is active, Siyo cannot choose to use his Lightning Blast Breath unmodified.

  
  

  Lightning Corona

  Having become a creature of the elements with powerful ties to those of storms, Siyo's body is perpetually riddled with currents of electricity that dance around his scales. While harmless in normal conditions, sharp focus of will and energy can turn this electrical halo into a dangerous defense.
  

  Statistical Effects

  When activated, this ability concentrates some of Siyo's internal strength into the halo of electricity that continually pervades his body, making it a damaging shield of electricity that zaps nearby opponents and punishes those who attack him. At the end of his turn each round, Siyo's Lightning Corona deals a Light amount of Electricity damage to all enemies currently standing adjacent to him (60% chance of success per affected target.) Additionally, any opponent striking Siyo in melee suffers Moderate Electricity damage per successful attack (100% chance to affect the triggering target.) While the Corona is active, Siyo is discouraged from using his Lightning Blast Breath -using the Breath immediately ends the Corona and it cannot be activated again until the Lightning Blast Breath's cooldown expires. Activation Time: 1 round; Duration: lasts until cancelled (instantaneous or see text); Cooldown: None (see text.)
